You are standing at a bus stop in January. Your hands are numb, your phone will not respond to your stiff fingers, and the person beside you is wearing a vest with a small cable coming out of the pocket. They look warm. You wonder how it works, and whether it would work for you.
Heated clothing is simple in principle: thin heating elements sewn into gloves, vests or jackets, powered through a USB connection. The catch is the part that is often left out of product photos. Most of it does not include its own power bank, and choosing the wrong one is an easy way to end up disappointed.
This guide explains how to match a power bank to heated gloves, a heated vest or a jacket, what runtimes the product listings actually claim, which item suits which kind of cold, and what to check before you order.
In this guide
The short version
Before you order
- Check whether a power bank is included. Several listings say it is not, and some products sell it as a separate variant.
- Match the output. Our listings mention a 5V/2A minimum for some items and a 2A or 2.4A output for others. Look for that on the power bank’s USB port.
- Use listing runtimes as best-case numbers. Heat setting, temperature and battery condition all change real-world runtime.
- Pick the item for the job: gloves for hands, a vest for your core, a jacket for long exposure, insoles for cold feet.
How USB heated clothing works
Thin heating elements (the listings for these products mention carbon fiber heating wire and heating pads) are built into the garment. A cable connects the garment to a USB power source, most commonly a power bank carried in a pocket. A button, usually with a colored light, switches between heat levels. For example, one heated hoodie in our store uses a button on the left chest, where red, white and blue lights correspond to high, medium and low.
Because the power source is a separate item you can swap, it is the piece that decides how long and how well your garment heats. That is why the rest of this guide starts with power banks rather than fabrics.
How to choose a power bank for a heated vest, jacket or gloves
1. Output: match what the listing asks for
Heated garments need a steady supply of current. The heated insoles in our store, for instance, state that they come with a USB cable only and that any power bank you use should have an output above 5V/2A. The heated hoodie listing says it works with most battery packs that have a 2A or 2.4A output, and the heated jacket listing refers to a 5V/2A universal USB supply. Look for these ratings printed on the power bank, next to the USB port you will use.
2. Capacity: bigger lasts longer
Capacity is measured in mAh. The 10,000 mAh figure appears again and again in the listings as the reference size. If you plan to spend a full day outdoors, choose a larger power bank than you think you need, because you will rarely run heated clothing on low all day.
3. Check that the connection suits your garment
The listings describe standard USB connections. Confirm your power bank has a full-size USB port (or that you have the right adapter cable) and that the cable is long enough to reach from your pocket to the garment. Some gloves, such as the windproof cycling pair, also mention that they support USB 2.0 and above.
4. Keep it warm
Batteries lose performance in the cold. Keep the power bank in an inside pocket, close to your body, rather than in an outer pocket or a bag exposed to the wind.
5. Watch for automatic shut-off
Some power banks switch off automatically when they detect a low current draw. If your garment cuts out after a while, that could be why, and a power bank with an always-on or low-current mode is worth looking for.
Read the variant names. Many listings offer options that change what is in the box. The heated jacket coat has options named “10000 power bank” and “20000 power bank” alongside heating-zone options, and the heated fleece hat lists options for “only battery,” “with battery” and “without battery.” Read the option you select, and the “package contents” line, before you check out.
How long will it last? What the listings say
Runtime depends on the power bank capacity and the heat level. These are the figures stated in the product listings. They are manufacturer estimates, so treat them as best-case numbers:
| Product | Power source in the listing | Stated runtime |
|---|---|---|
| Heated hoodie jacket | 10,000 mAh power bank (not included) | About 7–8 h on low, 5–6 h on medium, 3–4 h on high |
| Zip-up heated jacket with removable hood | 10,000 mA power bank | Up to 8–12 h |
| Heated cotton coat, sizes M to 7XL | 5V, 10,000 mA power bank | About 8 h of continuous heat |
| Windproof heated cycling gloves | 1,000 mAh power bank | About 4 h |
| Heated motorcycle gloves | 3.7V lithium batteries or a battery box | About 3–6 h at constant temperature |
A useful takeaway from the hoodie listing: the same power bank gives you roughly twice the runtime on low as on high. Start on a lower setting and turn it up only when you need to.
What about heating zones? Several designs are offered with 2, 4, 8, 9 or 11 zones. More zones warm more of your body, but they generally also draw more power, so if you are using a small power bank, fewer zones may last longer. Check the option name on the product page.

- Medical devices and reduced sensitivity. If you use a medical device or have reduced sensitivity to heat in your hands or feet, talk to your doctor before using heated clothing.
- What our listings do not state. The product pages do not list safety certifications, so we do not make claims about them. If certifications matter to you, contact us before you order.
- Travel. Check your airline’s rules before packing a power bank.
Common questions
Can I use any power bank with heated clothing?
Not any. Check the USB output printed on the power bank against what your garment’s listing asks for (some mention 5V/2A, some 2A or 2.4A). A power bank with too little output may give weak heat or shut off.
Is a power bank included with heated clothing?
Often not. Several of our listings state that no power bank or battery is included, and some products offer it as a separate option. Read the variant name and package contents before you order.
How long will heated gloves or a heated vest run?
It depends on the power bank capacity and the heat level. Our listings give examples such as about 7–8 hours on low and 3–4 hours on high for a heated hoodie with a 10,000 mAh power bank. Treat those as best-case numbers.
Can I wash heated clothing?
Several listings describe their garments as washable. Follow each product’s care instructions and disconnect the power bank before washing.
Do heated jackets come in plus sizes?
One of our heated jackets runs from M to 7XL and other options go up to 6XL. Check the size chart on each product page, and remember that several listings say sizing can run smaller than European and American sizes.
What if I do not need heat, only warmth?
Browse our men’s down jackets and parkas, men’s gloves, belts and mittens and women’s gloves and mittens for non-heated options.
